Last years meetings

We had a few meetings and lessons at the end of last year that we haven't told about yet. On the 17th of October we had a visitor from Joensuu's Karelia university of applied sciences. Taavi Kiesiläinen came to tell us about the studies of media. He told his own story about how he ended up studying towards Bachelor's degree in Culture and Arts (Bachelor of Media). He told us about the studies in general and also about the career opportunties. He also showed us a couple of videos that he had been making.

On the 1st o November we had a lesson about Romania. It was kept by our school's arts and religion teacher Ari Kallio. He told us about a lot basic information about the country. It was also really interesting to hear about his own trip to Romania. He showed us pictures and also spoke about the most famous sights ect. We also had another lesson about Turkey held by our school's history and social studies teacher Marja-Liisa Nykänen. This lesson was more general knowledge about the country.

We also had a logo contest for our project. Some of our school's students made really good options. Then the other students voted for the best logo. The winner was selected to represent our school in a contest between all the countries that participate in this project.

This year we have already had the opportunity to go end learn about our own city's newspaperand how it's made. We have a whole post about that. Happy new year!

Our visit to the Pieksämäen Lehti's headquarters

On Wednesday 11th of January 2020 we visited the Pieksämäen Lehti's office. There we met the editor in chief Kari-Pekka Issakainen and a few of the journalists of the newspaper. The editor in chief told us about the newspapers' history and current action. The newspaper is a part of Middle Finland's consern. Also big newspapers such as Savon Sanomat are a part of this consern. Pieksämäen Lehti is released three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Thursday's paper is made on Wednesday, and Saturday's and Monday's paper on Friday. Pieksämäen lehti's layout has been made in Varkaus for ages, but for the last few years its has been made in Pieksämäki at their office. Nowadays the whole paper is made in Pieksämäki. They use a few applications such as Planner and NEO in their work. For example they plan the appearance of the paper and plan future articles. Here are a few pictures from the visit.

Here sits the editor in chief Kari-Pekka Issakainen is his office.

First steps

A lot of things happened last week concerning our project. Last Tuesday there was a lecture kept at our school about propaganda and media literacy. The lecture was interesting and taught a lot. Also it´s subject was central with our project, so it was important to listen. Our whole school was in the auditorium listening to the lecture. We think that on the whole the lecture was very informative. One of the quotes the lecturer used at the end of the lecture, was "Propaganda becomes ineffective the moment we are aware of it." -Josef Goebbels (1897-1945).

Last Thursday we had a lesson taught by our philosophy and psychology teacher. She told us about being and working in a group and what kind of roles we have in our groups. We discussed about those things in our groups. During this Erasmus+ project we work in four different groups, so the lesson was very useful.

One of the groups decorates our school during this project. We have our own bulletin board on the second floor of our school. The group has also put the flags of every country who have participated in this project on the balcony we have in our school. They also maintain an Instagram-account for this project in our school. You can go and follow it @piluerasmus.

See you next time!
